Meditation: The Awareness Approach

What is meditation? How does it work? And how can you make it work for you?

To begin with, it's quite normal to think as much and as chronically as we do, we're wired that way. This busyness of mind is represented by Beta brain waves. However, with practice we can learn how to tone it down a bit.

Relaxing Alpha brain waves occur when we're focused on something pleasant or neutral long enough to no longer have our minds running amuck with worries, concerns, habitual scheming, internal dialoging, and the like. This is "light meditation".

Then there's Theta. Theta is the first stage of sleep. It is the one stage of sleep that we are most likely to still be able to maintain conscious awareness. When we maintain stability in Theta we are in "deep meditation". We all pass through Theta every night on our way to sleep. We move through it so quickly that we very seldom even notice it's pleasant sensations and nuances. It's a state of mind in which we are still conscious, however, without all the busyness of chronic thinking. Therefore, without habitual thinking, there is only one thing left: a deep seated sense of peace and calm.

There are two skills that we need to learn to successfully relax and meditate. These are: Focus and Awareness. Focus is what will get us into Alpha and then into Theta. Awareness is what makes it possible to know where we are in our journey from Beta to Alpha to Theta.

In this CD Jacob Felder,RYT assist you in the process of developing the skills of focus and awareness, ultimately, leading you to the fulfillment of developing your own successful meditation practice.
